Model atoms

Model atoms of various sophistication are currently available for several ions. They are characterized by the number of levels (individual atomic levels and superlevels) that they include. Oscillator strengths and photoionization cross-sections have been extracted from the Opacity Project database, TOPbase, while level energies have been updated to experimental values extracted from the NIST atomic spectra database. We use the extensive Kurucz atomic data sets for iron-peak elements. For each model, a data file and a Grotrian diagram (as a PDF file) can be downloaded. Files used for specific model atmospheres are specially marked and are generally the most up-to-date (e.g., data used for the OSTAR2002 and the BSTAR2006 model grids).

The following tar archive files contain all necessary atomic data files to compute specific model atmospheres. Additional Kurucz iron-peak element data files are required for models that include iron (see iron data).
